I’ve posted this pics of this skirt, top, and belt a few times. I tried it this time with cowboy boots, a scarf, and a chunky cable cardigan. I was at work alone and in two hours I only had two customers. So I took some snaps.

  • Scarf and tank top: Target
  • Skirt: thrifted
  • Boots: hand-me-downs from Christina’s Aunt Dolly
  • Belt: free from Lynette
  • Cardigan: I pulled this out of my dad’s closet about 15 years ago. It is my favorite sweater. In college, I liked to wear it when I was writing papers because it made me feel smart.

It wasn’t quite warm enough for this outfit yet, but I was pretty pleased with how professional I felt in it. My bag and shoes matched! These are one of two pairs of fully lined wool trousers I got from Ann Taylor—one brown and one black. I also got a jacket to go with this pair. I splurged on these items because they are warm, I’ll wear them for a long time, and I needed a dressy, professional outfit to wear in the winter. The belt I used to try on these pants cost $53. So I left the store, went to Burlington Coat Factory, and bought one that looked pretty much the same for $13.

  • Necklace and bracelet: World Market, gift from MidSis
  • Cardigan: hand-me-down from LilSis
  • Shirt: Ann Taylor
  • Pants: Ann Taylor
  • Belt: Burlington Coat Factory
  • Shoes: Earth
  • Bag: Target

Yes. That’s right.

Nevermind what I said before. I want to be a peacock for Halloween next year.

I was a Girl Scout for Halloween. At work the day before, I wore my shirt and vest with khakis.

On Halloween, I shimmied into my original skirt—apparently my hips have grown much more than my waist—and wore the whole kit. A couple of friends joined me for our very own Girl Scout troop.

I enjoyed getting ready for Halloween this year so much more than I have in the past because I knew what I was going to be. I had this one planned out since last year. For next year I’m thinking…ballerina. Or Frida Kahlo.

This is one of my favorite go-to outfits. The button-down pink shirt feels dressy, the longer short-sleeved purple shirt acts like a sweater, and the scarf is fun.

Note to self: Avoid making hips look bigger. Take hands out of pockets for pictures.

I’ve worn the scarf tied around my neck before. This time I tried a menswear look with the scarf worn like a tie.

  • Scarf: free from MidSis
  • Pink button-down shirt: Old Navy
  • Purple shirt: Target
  • Khakis: Target
  • Purple shoes: Target

I wore some variation of this outfit all weekend. I was projecting films for the Tallgrass Film Festival. I like the green of the jacket with the bright colors of my new scarf (which I got for 30% off). Made me feel artsy.

  • Scarf: Target
  • Jacket: Maurice’s
  • Hoodie: Old Navy
  • Tee shirt: Tallgrass Film Fest
  • Corduroys: Target
  • Shoes: Earth

Facilitated a focus group today. Glad I dressed up, because there was a photog from the newspaper in my room. The shot that got in the paper had me in the background. Kind of. It’s like a “Where’s Waldo” picture, where you can’t really see me. But whatever.

  • Necklace: Primark
  • Dress: Target
  • Jacket: Maurice’s
  • Shoes: Target

What I wore to work:

  • Necklace: can’t remember where I got this from.
  • Brown sweater: Target
  • Blue top: Target
  • Skirt: $1 from the Treasure Chest (the tag says Worthington, so I figure it was from JCPenneys)

What I wore to Lynette’s ugly sweater party:

  • Ugly sweater
  • Jeans
  • My awesome pink slippers (not really—I wore real shoes)
